The Match | Consistency

If The Match has sparked something for you, I’d be grateful if you shared it with someone. That’s how this community grows.

Word: Consistency

Sentence:

Consistency creates credibility; inconsistency creates liability.

Passage:

Early in my life, I didn’t realize how much my lack of consistency was costing me, both personally and professionally. I thought my titles—administrator, father, husband—would excuse the gaps. But I learned those titles are earned through consistency in both actions and words. Consistency is a choice. And once you decide what truly matters, consistency delivers success. Without core values, we have nothing to anchor to. And a boat without an anchor will always drift out to sea.

I was heavy on words and light on the actions to back them up. Those empty promises led to empty results. Being on time for the meeting you set up. Calling back the parent you know won’t tell you what you want to hear. Leaving work early to pick up your child even when the deadline is looming. It all adds up over time.

When I was a principal, my goal was to be consistent in every interaction—from the custodian to the student to the teacher. If people have to guess what they’ll get when they approach you, they stop approaching. Leadership is a selfless role, and when you serve others, they deserve the consistent version of you. When our actions and words align, people feel safe, secure, and connected.

Consistency in leadership, parenting, partnerships, and friendships determines how deep our relationships grow and how long they last.

Where do the people you lead or love need more consistency from you right now?

Such a simple word and concept, but not always easy to do or teach/coach others to do. So many light bulbs above my head after reading this one. Thank you!!

Thank you! I feel the same way—consistency looks simple on paper but takes real discipline and self-awareness to live out. Those “light bulb” moments are what keep us growing.
